Calhoun #1

After a long weekend of visiting friends in Milwaukee, I needed a good workout to start the week. The morning forecast called for evening rain, but with the recent accuracy of weather.com, I still had hopes for my first laps of the year around Lake Calhoun. Rain came during the day, and then it went. At day's end, I walked to my car and the pavement was dry, so it was a go... in 54 degree F weather in shorts and a T-shirt. I pushed three laps straight and stayed just warm enough to be comfortable, but wow, I could not move my arms when I was done as they had little movement and nearly froze from wind and speed, a bit of a weird feeling, but not really too uncomfortable. The uncomfortable part came after on my way to getting my skates sharpened for tomorrow's championship game, and my knees started to hurt like they've never hurt before. I felt old. Gah. I'm home now and they're fine again, maybe it was the cold. I sure hope it was. Oh well, it was good to finally get around that lake again. I figure I'll be there 2-3x per week this summer. Perhaps one day I'll live within walking distance.

Almost summer

Damn weather. A teaser day mixed in with bunches of mediocre days seems to be the norm lately. Soon it'll get over that hump.

A lot of stuff is starting to fill in the weekends over the summer... Milwaukee visit, mini-reunion with Madison peeps in southern MN, big reunion with Madison peeps somewhere in the U.S., Jack Johnson campout concert, bachelor party, wedding, MN cabin trip, Taylors Falls campout, and maybe even a Vegas trip... we'll see.

Then with hockey 2x per week, I think I'll keep busy. I don't see how this summer doesn't top '07.

What I know, and what I just don't know

Things on the leisure side are on autopilot, no complaints. The summer schedule is filling up, and good weather will be here soon. Visions of grilling, hockey, cabin trips, concerts, reunions, wedding(s) (!), and other summerish items give me a lot to look forward to in the coming months.

On the other side of things, I just don't know lately. It's been an unbelievably unpredictable mix of unpleasant and pleasant days. For now, I'll just have to keep up the effort and hope for the best.
