Mifflin and the weeks ahead

After a year off, it was back to Mifflin, and it didn't disappoint. A great weekend with good weather. I can't complain. It's always great to see everyone get back together in Madi.

So this cold I got before the long trip... it still lingers! I talk to other people and their colds go away after about a week, but man, I get one and it lasts a month. What the hell? It probably didn't help pushing myself for 16 days on that trip, either. Oh well. It's getting better still.

Unfortunately it looks like Tuesday hockey is breaking up for the summer, but that gives time for... Tuesday softball! I'm on an organized team for once and we won our first game last week. This week we get to the field to find it double booked. Ugh. Our team ended up getting the boot and a reschedule, poop on that. But luckily, I had looked up batting cages near my house and voila, there's one right down the road! My buddy and I went straight from the cancelled softball game to the cages, and man, what a find. In addition to the slow pitch softball cage are three baseball cages, and I took a few swings in those too. Definitely have lost a step in batting since high school. After several rounds, I started to feel my hands get more and more raw by the swing. I looked down on my hand in-between swings and saw this blister opening millimeter by millimeter with each swing. Ick. I wanted to keep hitting but damn it was getting bad. I quit when my hands couldn't take it anymore. It was a much better workout than I thought, and now my hands are completely raw! It was even difficult driving... I drove home mostly using the flat of my palms, not an easy feat! I'll have to build up the callous. GREAT find.

Good Twins tickets on Friday, a wedding reception on Saturday, but no hockey Sunday. Should be a good weekend at home, the first in four weeks.
