Time is flying....

Seriously, it feels like the past few months have flown by. I'm trying to figure out why. When I travel for work, it's a nice getaway, so that might be helping... when I get back on a Thursday, like two days ago, I have one day in the office and then it's the weekend. It really is nice.

The bad thing I'm a bit anxious over now about being so busy and frickin' sick this past month is that for the first time I can remember, I wasn't prepared for Halloween! Like last night... I had a party to go to but I was exhausted and stayed in. 1. It was a Friday, and I stayed in. 2. Halloween finally falls on a weekend and I don't take advantage of the night before Hallowee also falling on the weekend. Not... getting... old...

Well tonight I also have no plans... I have party to go to, but no costume. There's a few errands I have to run today, but other than that, it's a totally free Saturday. What to do, what to do...

Oh no!

Well with this ongoing worldwide scare of H1N1, I was most afraid of getting H1N1 going into this coming fall season. I have even heard predictions that there will be a pandemic. It's kind of scary.

Well I haven't gotten H1N1, but I did get a cold a few weeks back. Unfortunately, it was at a sucky time to get a cold as it coincided with a work trip to Lake Tahoe. Oh well. I was there at least.

This cold put me in a bit of a rut for working out, but I had plans to get right back on track... until I started having pains I had never had before in my head. Not wanting to eff around with pains in my head, I went to the doctor as soon as I could. The doc asked a few questions, checked me over, and within a few minutes she had me diagnosed.

Before I go into what she told me, I must say that there are certain topics and areas that I don't have a lot of knowledge in... and I found out that this was one of them.

She looked me straight in the eye, and told me, "Shingles." Apparently 90% of the people I've talked to have heard of this, but having never heard of this, there was a 3-second period of pure silent freakout. I could only muster a "What's that?" back to her, and she gave me the rundown.

Basically if you've had the chickenpox, the virus remains in you in a dormant state and it can come back with a lowered immune system. This could stem from the cold, old age, or stress. She guessed it was the cold, but it really wasn't that bad of a cold... stress maybe? Old age?! Oh yeah, everyone I talked to also said they thought it only happened to old people. Ha. Couldn't be the case for me... Anyways, I can't give anyone else shingles as that just isn't how it works, but I can give chickenpox to someone that has never had chickenpox. This being the case, I've been quarantined at home this week, working from my apartment. Nice in a way, but not at 100% as the pain is constant... but more annoying than anything. It's also made me a bit lethargic, not good for the workout routine.

Everyone I talked to also said they heard it was really painful. Well it wasn't at first, but it grew... and yeah it got painful.

So, I figure it's another week or two until I get out of this funk. It's not too disappointing or stressful, maybe a bit unfortunate, but it's definitely annoying.

And don't get me wrong, I've had some fun in the past two weeks too...

Settling after summer

What a summer. I think it's finally over as the cooler weather is setting in.

I must say I didn't give myself much time for rest, but hey, I had a great time doing it. Now I think I get at least a few weekends off to just relax and do nothing. I think today I'll get back on the workout track as I've been busy traveling for work, Tahoe this last week. Speaking of travel, I think I've had some pretty bad luck this year with delays. I think this is the third time I've been delayed a full day. Wish I could have it back, but I'm beginning to learn to deal with it without wanting to strangle someone... it's not a good feeling when you've already been waiting for an extra three hours and they announce your flight's been cancelled. What does this mean? Another two hour wait in a customer service line with two agents servicing an angry mob of over 100 restless other people. You have to think the stress level is just as high on the other side of that counter.

So anyways, on this last delay, I bought Dan Brown's Digital Fortress, having already read Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, and Deception Point. Let me just say this shit was crack in book form. I finished a good portion during the wait, then proceeded to read the rest in my hotel room. So much for reading material for the flight. I did some searching and found that he had a new book, a third in the series following Angels and Demons and Da Vinci Code, called the Lost Symbol. Being so new, I realized if I wanted it I'd have to bite the bullet of the hardcover price. I told myself I'd wait for the softcover and save twenty bucks. I thought wrong. During ANOTHER delay yesterday, I walked into the airport store and grabbed it, not breaking stride. Crack in book form. Not that I'd know how addictive crack is.

I stopped for groceries last night and got the makings for a shredded rotisserie chicken sandwich with red leaf lettuce, vine-on tomato, onion, homemade chipotle mayo, and shredded rotisserie chicken on self-bake ciabatta bread. I think I'll hit the elliptical and get that going.

And I think the blog will make a little comeback now that I think I'll have more time. Think.
