B-day, Vikings, sauce, travel

B-day

The annual shitshow was, well, a shitshow. Somehow my sister out-did me as 'person with worst balance' over the course of the night... and I was one of the last ones standing. Can't say enough about how much I love getting a bunch of friends out together. So fun. One new thing this year though... I'm starting to not like saying the number... the number of years... old... I am....... :/

Vikings

...don't wanna talk about it. This will sting for years. Maybe decades. %$#@^!

Sauce

This weekend I plan on finally making homemade pasta sauce. I don't know what's kept me so long... I had an hour-long conversation over lunch with a master of sauce, so I'm pretty confident that my first try will be a good one. Can't wait. Ever since having pizza at John's of Bleecker Street in NY with the best. sauce. ever., I've wanted to try to reproduce a drop dead sexy tomato sauce. I'm 99% sure this is one of those food items I will make in successive days obsessively until I start to get sick of it. That's just how I work.

Travel

Lot of travel coming up. Looking forward to it. Seattle, New Orleans, Chicago, Japan, San Francisco, Seattle again... and this only gets me through April.

Sleepy time...

Skiing... for the very first time!

I've always played hockey. Never been skiing. I've even been on a "ski trip" my freshman year in college, but alas, there was no skiing for me even then. That changed... oh did that change.

Having never been, I didn't know how to stop or turn. At all. Instead of starting on a bunny hill, I was thrown into the deep end by my friends and was forced to tread water.

Once at the top, the initial slope of the hill was light, so I thought to myself, this isn't so bad... then I saw the first big downslope. Oh crap oh crap oh crap I don't know how to stop or slow down!!!! I stayed upright for a while, kept accelerating, and got going faster than I'd go again that day or probably ever will again. And then I bit it. Hard. I don't know if I flew through the air or what but I tumbled for a good 5 or 10 seconds and finally came to a crashing halt. Luckily I didn't hurt myself, but I can't imagine how bad it must have looked to others... I found one of my skis down a hill to the side on another run. After that someone decided to teach me how to turn... thanks a lot!

So after a few runs, those that I was with had me try the moguls... yikes. I wiped out a few times and again, in one instance, my ski went flying one way and I went another. To top that spill off, a 10-year old girl expertly went and got my ski for me... so yeah I got shown up by a 10-year old girl. How humiliating!

It was fun though... I can't believe it took me that long to finally go! And now my legs are starting to kill. Or is that the bruising? Must be both....

New Year

I'm continuing to use my excuse that I've been too busy to blog. I'll make an effort to make more consistent posts....

December made me fat. Two weeks of travel combined with Christmas and New Years left little room for exercise, and I was really feeling it. Fortunately in the past week I've kicked my own ass a few times and had a few hockey games, so I'm almost back to normal it feels. Good to know I still can shape up when I want, but I really let myself go last month. Ick. Someone suggested I eat more healthy; I just might. I used to be able to eat anything I wanted when I was in full workout mode but now with travel it's not quite as easy.

Not much travel this month but it will definitely pick up in Feb-April. I'll have to enjoy the down time around here over the next few weeks while I can.

Not much more to say right now, things are rolling along nicely. Oh, and I got a grill for Christmas, which I'll probably use 100 times this year. Love grilling. There should be plenty of experiments, good and bad, conducted on that thing during its lifetime. I'll post food pictures. Hah.
